Work Measurement
Impact on the Organization
Without measuring production goals and then analyzing the measurements,
an organization cannot effectively know if it is going forward,
backward or maintaining. The same issues arise if the measure
being taken is not valid. Having support from management to set
and measure production goals is an important component. Put together,
all the pieces can make an organization an industry leader or
the lack can cause an organization to become second rate.
Learning Objectives
- Identify methods for tracking and evaluating production goals.
- Experience developing production goals and baseline measures.
- Identify the importance of baseline measures.
- Develop baseline
measures for your product.
Program Description
This module is used in tandem with Setting High Standards and
the techniques used in that module are reexamined here. Using
examples and simulations, participants learn the importance of
customer input to production goals, and quality standards, and
the resulting impact on profit and loss. Working in teams and
team measurement is stressed. Participants look at specific production
and non-production measures in a variety of categories and tools
to evaluate a specific measure are introduced. Getting management "buy-in" on
a measure and collecting measurement data are discussed as well
as the importance of having a team chosen goal. Data collection
techniques, data interpretation and setting a baseline measure
round out this module.
Time Investment
Typically 4 hours.
