Preventative Maintenance
Impact on the Organization
Is preventative maintenance really necessary? Isn’t it
easier to just run a machine until something breaks down and
then fix it? And do you really have the time to shut down for
preventative maintenance? The answer is that preventative maintenance
is necessary, cost-effective, and time-saving. It can make the
difference between a company staying competitive and losing its
edge. Preventative maintenance can also decrease an organization’s
operating expenses, by keeping machines running well, finding
problems when they are still small, and helping employees to
take responsibility for their machines’ operations.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss how effective Preventative Maintenance can result
in your company gaining a competitive advantage over other
suppliers.
- Identify ways to partner with Maintenance on Preventative
Maintenance.
- Identify ways of improving communication between
the Maintenance person and the Operator.
- Identify the primary
process for Preventative Maintenance.
- Become familiar with
a PM Checklist and Trouble Shooting Guide.

maintenance (PM). They will discuss what part of PM is the operator's
responsibility and what part is the responsibility of maintenance.
Participants will look at a case study about PM and will also
see examples about how PM breaks down into manageable pieces.
They will have the opportunity to develop a PM schedule for the
machines they work on, and learn how to do PM even when they "don't
have time." Finally, participants will go through an example
for troubleshooting problems.
