Planning and Implementing Change
Impact on the Organization
Since we live at a time when organizations are constantly changing, planning for a change is necessary and planning how changes are to be implemented can make the difference between an organization keeping up with the market, or becoming obsolete. Knowing how to overcome obstacles, assess resistance, plan for action, build commitment, and rapidly make adjustments are essential skills for an organization’s employees to move the organization into the next millennium.
Learning Objectives
- Think through the plan carefully enough before implementing change.
- Determine what factors determine the organization’s readiness and capability for a particular change effort to be successful.
- Identify the key influencers and stakeholders whose commitment is needed in order for the change effort to thrive.
- Assess resistance to the change effort and deal with it directly.
- Modify the plan and determine the appropriate time to launch the change effort.
- Implement the plan, reevaluate it, improve and modify it, and continue implementing it.
Program Description
This module will help participants to understand why an organization needs to change, and looks at the five steps to plan a change and the four steps to implement it. Participants discuss readiness for change, commitment to change and obstacles and resistance to change. Participants learn how to create a safe environment to discuss change, how to key into what motivates others to “buy-in” to change, and they are given tools to overcome resistance to change from a variety of viewpoints. Participants then walk through all the steps of implementing a change and how to make it work as easily and painlessly as possible.
