Interviewing Skills
Impact on the Organization
How can a manager/supervisor know they are getting the best
person for the job? Mistakes have led to lost time, reduced productivity,
reduced worker morale and wasted company resources. Does it require
a crystal ball? No. Having the tools and skills to effectively
assess a candidate during an interview can assist in hiring the
best applicant.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the components of an effective interview.
- Understand
the benefits of proper preparation.
- Conduct a practice interview.
- Evaluate candidate’s
suitability.
Program Description
This module focuses on the necessary steps that need to be taken
to enable managers and supervisors to hire right the first time.
Participants will write a job description, including not only
experience and education, but also interpersonal qualities. Participants
discuss ways to look for evidence during the interview that the
person can do the job, and what behavior and character traits
fit with participants' organization. In addition to learning
the strategies for getting below the surface on resumes and finding
and handling the "red flags," participants learn how
to best prepare and conduct the interview. Legal issues of interviewing
and the correct steps to take after the interview are all discussed.
Participants conclude the program with a practice interview;
they receive feedback and then fill out a "balance sheet" weighing
the "pros" and "cons" of a particular candidate.
Time Investment
Typically 4 hours.
