Impact on the Organization
Effective leaders use a specific set of task and relationship competencies to motivate, direct, and support their employees as they move towards common goals. These competencies are often developed at the “school of hard knocks” through trial and error rather than a conscious effort to improve in areas that can make a difference. Effective Leadership helps leaders evaluate the skills they need to make their organization more successful, and then provides the tools for them to develop the needed competencies.
Learning Objectives
- Identify what effective leaders DO.
- Identify the tasks and behaviors that foster success as a leader.
- Identify your personal leadership strengths and opportunities for improvement by completing the Leadership Effectiveness Profile.
- Identify decision making methods, their advantages and drawbacks, and apply them to real work-related problems.
- Identify the requirements for an effective performance management system.
- Identify the importance of congruent values.
- Develop a Personal Development Plan.
Program Description
This workshop provides participants with a better understanding of the skills required to be an effective leader. Participants will have the opportunity to assess their specific strengths and opportunities for improvement, and practice the skills that will enable them to be a better leader.
Once participants know where their strengths lie, the module reviews the areas of task related leadership competencies, as well as people related leadership competencies. Participants learn tools to improve weak areas, and then create a development plan to assist them in making the changes needed to be an effective leader.
The eight task and relationship competencies reviewed in this module are:

- Change Management
- People Enablement
- Reciprocal Communication
- Emotional Intelligence
